Their Relation to Formal Logical Descriptions

چکیده

In the theory of living systems, any description of self-organizing processes is confronted by the central problem of self-generated system/environment boundaries. This contrasts with non-living systems where the boundary is always generated by an observer. A formal representation of the simultaneous existence of the inside and the outside of the system is required, i.e. the distinctions which the system itself makes (in order to generate its own boundary) and the distinctions which the observer makes must be incorporated together without contradiction. In contrast, if a theory of self-organization is restricted to changes within a system (for example, physical systems, which may be defined by some physical state variables), the question of the boundary is eliminated and the distinction between a system and its environment (its inside and its outside) is generally interpreted as an information transfer between both. This assumption, however, contradicts the 'closure thesis' postulated for cognitive and living system by modern biology, in particular the theory of autopoietic systems, which requires self-generated boundaries. 1 . B a s i c S i t u a t i o n The attempt to develop a scientific description of living systems in the sense of a 'holistic', i.e. nonreductionist "theory of life" in the 1970s led to a fundamental change in the scientific paradigm of strict separation of observer from observed. Instead the observer became part of the system to be described [von Foerster, 1985]: "A living organism is an independent autonomous organizationally closed being,

Translating Structured Database Schemas into Abstract Machines

ASSO is a formal methodology for developing database applications based on B. Within ASSO, conceptual and logical descriptions of databases are linked through a formal relation to break down a database design into simpler components. We propose a systematic translation from ASSO schemas into B-machines establishing a formal relationships between them. This permits the formal semantics of ASSO t...

Methodology of Description in Shaykh al – Ishraq

As an ontologist philosopher Shaykh al – Isharq believes in a heirarchegal being on the basis of which presents his classification of various descriptions. These descriptions are various both in terms of longitudinal and latitudinal. That is, for instance though his intative descriptions are at the latitude of his logical analytic descriptions, possesses itself a longitudinal order successiv...

A Formal Petri Net Based Model for Antivirus Update Agent System

In this paper, a formal model for antivirus update agent system is presented based on mobile agent technology and predicate/transition Petri nets. The mobile agent system contains two mobile agents called DCA and UNA. It sends out agents to update antivirus on client computers in a network. Each agent takes on a specified responsibility. First, DCA roams through the network and check the last d...

Generating Natural Language Descriptions of Z Test Cases

Critical software most often requires an independent validation and verification (IVV). IVV is usually performed by domain experts, who are not familiar with specific, many times formal, development technologies. In addition, model-based testing (MBT) is a promising testing technique for the verification of critical software. Test cases generated by MBT tools are logical descriptions. The probl...
